Hi Abhishek,

I understand that you need to know about starting Boot Scan using Windows Defender

How to run a boot scan with avast software

Sometimes, malicious and other potentially unwanted software, including rootkits, try to install themselves on your PC. This can happen when you connect to the Internet or install some programs from a CD, DVD, or other media. Once on your PC, this software might run immediately, or it might run at unexpected times. Windows Defender Offline can help remove such hard to find malicious and potentially unwanted programs using definitions that recognize threats. Definitions are files that provide an encyclopedia of potential software threats. Because new threats appear daily, it's important to always have the most up-to-date definitions installed in Windows Defender Offline.

You can refer to the following Microsoft article for more information.

Learning has never been so easy!

The Avast for Business endpoint security solution now offers the ability for admins to schedule or push boot-time scans to devices in the network. This can be helpful for catching persistent threats that perpetuate themselves on a connected machine. Here's how to do it.

6 Steps total

Step 1: Sign in to the Avast for Business portal and access your list of devices

First, sign in to Avast for Business (https://business.avast.com) and once the portal loads, click on 'Network' in the sidebar.

Step 2: Access the device on which you wish to run the boot-time scan

Click on 'Devices' under 'Network' and then click on the device for which you wish to initiate the boot-time scan.

Step 3: Begin task creation for the selected device

In the upper right of the device panel, click 'Create a task'

Step 4: Select boot-time scan

Now, click 'Scan device' to bring up the task options for that category -- in other words, the types of scan tasks available that you can create. Then, select 'boot-time scan' in the option list. You can optionally name the scan if you wish.

Step 5: Set additional parameters for the boot-time scan

Optionally, you can adjust several settings that are available for the boot-time scan. Of particular importance is the option entitled 'Restart the device now.' This will push the boot scan immediately to the selected device and prompt the user beforehand so they can save their work. If this is unchecked, the scan will begin on the next restart/reboot.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I have been searching for a cure to this pesky virus attack for 2 days and was about to give up and call a repair service. I tried 9 different virus/malware programs. 2 found the error and said nothing was needed. 1 found the error but failed to remove it. I tried Avast which said there was no error but, I didn't think about running the boot scan until I saw your article. It worked!!!!!

Sadly, the fix lasted less than 24 hours and the virus returned. :(
